Climate Action Marlborough

Our staff member Steph was delighted to attend Climate Action Marlborough in Blenheim last week, an event to support local business communities and develop ways to create positive climate action in the region.

Folks from Yealands Estate Winery, ASB, Marlborough District Council, Fairfield Construction, Plant and Food Research, Westpac, Clos Henri, Avon Valley Catchment Group, AWWA, Export Logistics, Climate Karanga Marlborough, Marisco Wines, Whitehaven, Toitu, Hortus, EP Wines and Maid 2 U solutions were also in attendance.

The day began with small group collaborative sessions, and we then heard from three informative speakers about their organisations’ improvements on the ground. One of these was Uttam Singh Floray from Toitū Envirocare, who spoke to the need for businesses to proactively pivot towards more resilient operations, ensuring that we remain robust amidst the evolving sustainability challenges. Further topics of discussion included the economic and environmental value of multi-cropping, how to make green power alternatives a reality and ways to combat greenwashing with meaningful transformation.

Steph got to visit Wineworks for the immersion experience, and learned the process and details of bottling wine - a subject not only close to her heart, but essential for improving our understanding of how HazEL can help the sector improve their green credentials.

The day ended with ‘speed dating’ partner matching to meet and greet others holding similar sustainability values. This part was fuelled by delicious wine, gin and non-alcoholic beverages all locally made. Overall a great way to connect with others actively seeking positive change in this important space.

Thanks to Catherine van der Meulen, Director Entrepreneurial Women with Purpose, for her organisation and warm leadership during the day.
